Bamum/Bamoun Mgba-Mgba Royal Necklace by the Bamoun tribe of Cameroon - The preceding fon normally wears this bronze necklace as a token of respect for the prior fon. The fon, or chiefdom's leader, would also present this necklace to deserving men or members of Sultan Bamum's court council, believing that it would strengthen their prestige and dispel any evil power.

About the Tribe

Bamum, also spelled Bamoun, is a West African ethnic group in Mali who speak a language that is often used as a lingua franca and is related to the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo family. Their kingdom, which has its capital in Foumban in Cameroon's high western grasslands, is ruled by a king (mfon) who is descended from one of the exogamous patrilineal lineages.
